The Administration performs professional, administrative, development and supervisory tasks related to radiation practices and the use of ionising radiation sources in human and veterinary medicine and to the protection of public against the harmful effects of ionising radiation.

It recognises and approves experts who carry out professional tasks in the field of ionising radiation. It provides systematic reviews and measurements of radon, as well as contamination monitoring of foodstuffs and drinking water.

It is also involved in raising people’s awareness of limitation, reduction and prevention of the harmful health effects of non-ionising radiation.

Competent authority for industrial and odder practices is Slovenian Nuclear Safety Administration.
